"Just as societies define a poverty
line to identify when someone has too little, we should also define a threshold for when someone has too much – an ‘Extreme Wealth – she proposes an upper limit of US$10m in wealth. The organization Patriotic Millionaires found that one-third of the millionaires who they surveyed supported a US$10m extreme wealth line."

George Monbiot distills and quantifies what most have known for a long time now…

‘There is one political problem from which all others follow. It is the major cause of Donald #Trump of Nigel #farage of the shocking weakness of their opponents, of the polarisation tearing societies apart, of the devastation of the living world. It is simply stated: the extreme wealth of a small number of people.’

At the root of all our problems stands one travesty: politicians’ surrender to the super-rich

There are many excuses for failing to tax the ultra-wealthy. The truth is that governments don’t tackle the problem because they don’t want to, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

#ElonMusk is already insanely rich and still wants more. Just imagine how much good could've been done with even half of that wealth compared to what he’s actually done. Anyone idolizing him should ask themselves that hard question. #ExtremeWealth #Inequality #BigTech #SocialImpact

Not an extra tax, but make tax-evasion impossible world wide. Also, stop special agreements between countries to not tax money-streams that enter or leave said countries.
And while we're at it: make corruption punishable by death.

500 Richest People Gained Record $2.2 Trillion in 2025, Fueling Calls for Wealth Tax | Common Dreams

The top 500 billionaires—led by Big Tech's Bezos, Musk, and Ellison—added a record $2.2 trillion to their wealth in 2025, sparking new calls for a wealth tax.

Feels like it should be an easy choice?

Billionaire wealth is not an accident — it’s built on exploitation, colonial extraction, and climate destruction.

Tax their wealth, dismantle their power, and put people and planet first.

Good to see increasing use of the term #ExtremeWealth as sometimes you have to name a thing before you can tackle it. When I was growing up, extreme poverty was increasingly viewed as obscene and worthy of coordinated action. It’s (past) time to do the same thing at the other end of the spectrum.

We might also need to deploy some psychoanalysis of what makes people unable to stop getting so much stuff that even they can't comprehend how much they have. If they weren't crazy during the initial phases of stuff-piling, they almost to the person are mentally disabled once they acquire too much stuff.
"Interestingly, a recent survey found nearly two-thirds of millionaires from G20 countries think wealth poses a risk to society when someone has 1,000 times the societal median. Even the rich think there is a line."

It’s not a rich list – it’s gone far beyond that. We need to talk about ‘extreme wealth’

We recognise extreme poverty as ruinous, but this turbo-charged affluence is deeply damaging too. Treat it as such, says Dhananjayan Sriskandarajah of the New Economics Foundation

I played a fictional billionaire on TV. It’s time world leaders got serious about taxing the real ones, says the actor Brian Cox

There cannot be both a future for a rich, healthy #biosphere AND #extremewealth. Extreme wealth is begotten of sociopathy and persists by it. It will always prioritise itself and expropriate resources needed to protect the planet and the rest of life. It will always exploit because it cannot accumulate more wealth in any other way.
