Una farsa che si ripete. Ogni volta che il governo ha bisogno di soldi, soprattutto se deve darli ai cittadini per fronteggiare un’emergenza come quella dei rincari, torna sempre in ballo una tassa sugli extraprofitti. E a proporla, anche stavolta, è il vicepresidente del Consiglio, Matteo Salvini.
L’idea del leader leghista è quella di tassare quelli che definisce gli extraprofitti delle aziende energetiche: “Abbiamo tassato le banche, possiamo anche tassare gli extraprofitti delle compagnie petrolifere”, afferma ipotizzando anche un intervento “fiscale o normativo” contro le speculazioni. Un intervento che sembra necessario per fronteggiare i rincari derivanti dalla guerra in Iran scatenata dagli alleati del governo, ovvero Stati Uniti e Israele.

Salvini assicura che il governo è “pronto a intervenire contro il caro carburanti”, nel caso in cui emergano “comportamenti speculativi da parte delle compagnie petrolifere”. Il vicepresidente del Consiglio ha convocato per mercoledì “le principali compagnie petrolifere in prefettura a Milano perché il conto che stanno pagando famiglie e imprese è troppo alto”.
Per Salvini gli aumenti, “soprattutto del diesel”, sono “inaccettabili ed eccessivi, anche considerando il conflitto in corso. Se c’è qualcuno che sta speculando, da ministro dei Trasporti – visto che me ne occupo direttamente – non sono disponibile a tollerarlo. Si può fare anche un intervento fiscale o normativo per evitare questa speculazione. Vediamo mercoledì che proposte porteranno: abbiamo tassato le banche, possiamo anche tassare sugli extraprofitti le compagnie petrolifere”.
Fatto sta che, per il momento, nel governo prevale la confusione. Un intervento non dovrebbe arrivare questa settimana, ma solamente verso la fine del mese. Intanto l’unica certezza è che l’esecutivo esclude un taglio delle accise, mentre sta pensando ad altri interventi contro il caro carburanti, ma con misure mirate e destinate ai redditi più bassi e ad alcune imprese.

A farce that repeats itself. Every time the government needs money, especially if it has to give it to citizens to face an emergency like the price hikes, the issue of a tax on excess profits always comes up. And this time, too, it’s proposed by the Vice President of the Council, Matteo Salvini.
The leader’s idea is to tax what he calls the excess profits of energy companies: “We have taxed banks, we can also tax the excess profits of oil companies,” he says, also hypothesizing a “fiscal or regulatory” intervention against speculation. An intervention that seems necessary to face the price increases resulting from the war in Iran triggered by the government’s allies, namely the United States and Israel.

Salvini assures that the government is “ready to intervene against high fuel prices,” in the event of “speculative behavior by oil companies.” The Vice President of the Council has called for Wednesday “the main oil companies at the prefecture in Milan because the bill that families and businesses are paying is too high.”
For Salvini, the increases, “especially of diesel,” are “unacceptable and excessive, even considering the ongoing conflict. If there is anyone speculating, as Minister of Transport – since I deal with it directly – I am not willing to tolerate it. A fiscal or regulatory intervention can also be made to avoid this speculation. We will see what proposals they bring on Wednesday: we have taxed banks, we can also tax excess profits of oil companies.”
The fact is that, for the moment, confusion prevails in the government. An intervention should not arrive this week, but only towards the end of the month. In the meantime, the only certainty is that the executive excludes a reduction in excise duties, while it is thinking about other interventions against high fuel prices, but with targeted measures aimed at low-income households and some businesses.
