the $300 dollars that i put into this f@#king chromebook... that i just purchased in summer 2024...i regret it and wish i had put that money into a $400 windows laptop with 16gb ram and a 1tb ssd with a touchscreen and windows 11 and the ability just click and install any software i want including duckduckgo, etc...
this chromebook can't do any of that. i was pretty excited when i got the deal on this chromebook. i already had chromebooks.
the #lacros thing felt natural to me. i figured lacros would continue to be worked on.
but it won't be.
the debian linux version of the chrome browser feels hacky to me, even when i enable the gpu flag for linux apps crostini
there's no duckduckgo browser.
i almost want to return this chromebook.
i say almost because, i guess i'm sort of gonna keep it. its just sad kinda, that
fictional observer: what
me: that like, i can't feel more "free" with it
fictional observer: free?
me: yeah. i want duckduckgo. i want literally everything i can do on windows but on chromeos
fictional observer: then you should not have bought a chromebook
me: yeah. i know, i'm kinda seeing that now. i mean. the 2 chromebooks i have are fine. one is in the car trunk so i can take it to the library or if i have meetings. and its fast and easy and you can type and goto google docs and process text etc. much better than dealing with f@@cking windows. the other one at home is similar, but with a 15 inch screen and full keyboard plus numeric keypad and its fast and comfortable and again it gets the job done when i just wanna type and open the browser fast and get going
but when i wanna do stuff like get the duckduckgo browser or stuff like that, my windows laptop from 2019 or whatever...that one is starting to show its age and so, i wish i had put the money that i put into this on sale chromebook toward a proper replacement for *that* windows laptop, not *another* chromebook. i think having *both* windows laptops and chromebooks is a good thing. but, if you have a chromebook in the trunk, and a chromebook in your room that both still kinda get the job done, you don't need another chromebook, even if its on sale in the $200s. you should take that money and put it toward a slightly more expensive windows laptop. i know. i like how chromebooks have the USBC non-proprietary charging ports. but even that windows laptop that was for sale had i think at least ONE USBC non-proprietary charging port. do I wish it would have had *two*? like the chromebook? yes. but. i think that was the machine i should have purchased.
