@atrombone Biased much?

What if your wife were playing for, say, a production of King Lear? Hm? Unless that opera , too, is near and dear.
I am never biased, all my friends are fantastic at their art and that is just facts.
/I suspect your wife is, probably, a pretty good pianist and that isn't an opinion. It's statistics.

@DrSuzanne @howler0502 ALIENS (1986) came out while I was in college #ImOld and our postmodernism class #EnglishMajor had a FIELD day analyzing that one 🤣 #FridayThrillerClub 👾 #AlienDirectorsCut
Any MedievalHistory buffs out there? Specifically literature. I took a medieval history course in college and cannot remember the term for this device. Basically, if you repeat a word after two occurrences, instead of adding to the value, it takes away. So if I wrote, something was very, very, very, very sweet, it would actually mean it was quite the opposite. What was that called? #medievalhistory #literature #englishmajor

@RickiTarr Not many jobs look from the outside like an #EnglishMajor could most successfully handle them.

On the other hand, it’s wonderful how many situations in various fields need someone able to tease out a plot line or subtext and explain it clearly in writing.

@drskyskull You and I live in different worlds, my friend.

'#Trans #people are not a #threat' Some #UniversityOfKentucky (#UK) #students won’t stand for #SB150

“When I hear about the continued attacks on #nonbinary and trans people the only word I feel like I can use is devastation,” #MadisonMclean, a #sophomore #EnglishMajor, said. “Especially being from Kentucky. I love this state; I don’t want to leave this state.”

‘Trans people are not a threat.’ Some UK students won’t stand for Senate Bill 150

According to the Kentucky General Assembly, Gov. Andy Beshear’s veto of Senate Bill 150 was overridden on Wednesday, leaving some UK students unhappy.  The bill sets guidelines for the study of sexuality and rules regarding biological sex in primary and secondary school.  The Lexington Herald-Leader said that the bill will not only ban puberty blockers,...

CUNY writes back to the New Yorker! The English major isn’t dying - the state is trying to kill it. And English today is a beautiful necessary practice that should thrive, and my colleagues are doing the most inspirational work. https://www.gc.cuny.edu/news/end-english-major-hardly #newyorker #endofenglish #englishmajor #cuny #GraduateCenter
End of the English Major? Hardly!

Graduate Center scholars say "The New Yorker" story is a clarion call, but the humanities remain relevant.

Reading the #NewYorker feature on the alleged decline of the #EnglishMajor and this bit made me laugh:

“Imagine if you had a voice assistant that could write code for you, and you said, ‘Hey, Alexa, build me a Web site to sell shoes,’ ” Sanjay Sarma, a professor of mechanical engineering at M.I.T., told me on the phone. (Immediately, he pulled the receiver away to rebuff a device in the room: “Shut up, Alexa! No! No!”)
