@Don If it's encrypted, however, maybe you don't need to bother erasing it?
The only thing to worry about then is if prying eyes keep it until current cryptography is easy to break. But how much of a target is your data?
This is good news because Windows is one of the few major operating systems left that doesn't encrypt storage by default.
They may not get it right at first, but it's a step in the right direction.
