Today, I learned that employment insurance in Canada is around 55% of income and in Oregon it's 1.25%.

Edit: as in, when laid off that's the percentage of your salary that pays out. So in Oregon if they accept me I'll be getting less than I'd make working minimum wage for 6 hours and I'm Canada I'd be getting a bit under $700/week.

Obviously there's a bunch of other complexity but it's still a rather striking difference.
