There's been a lot of talk lately about women not doing #emotionalLabour (valid!) but it leaves a gap, with no history or cultural infrastructure for men to learn and build capacity.

TattieStill remembering that time when, back in my masc-presenting days, I decided that my wife was having to do too much of the #EmotionalLabour of managing the social calendar in the relationship, and so I declared that I would organise the next get-together with friends. So I wrote an email and sent it to a bunch of folks to ask when they'd be available.

Jennifer Moore 😷And every time I have to go through that, I can feel how much it wipes me out.
Now of course that one is exacerbated by the high stakes, i.e. knowing how much another round of covid would probably mess me up. It's scary.
But I do think that part of it is the effort of presenting a diplomatic front. Emotional labour to not be angry with them, cognitive labour for how to explain it so they'll understand.
