The piece reports that toddlers show greater happiness when giving treats to others than when receiving treats themselves, suggesting that sharing is intrinsically rewarding from a very young age. The study uses structured giving scenarios with 16 to 23-month-olds to compare happiness across giving, receiving, and observing conditions, aiming to isolate genuine prosocial motivation from instruction-following.

This topic appeals to psychology readers because it highlights early developmental roots of prosocial behavior and the internal reward mechanisms that may reinforce generosity, offering insight into how cooperative behavior might originate and be maintained through positive emotion.

Who is talking about what I'm going to call #facialcodinggate?
There's suddenly an influx of criticism of #facialcoding for #emotion research in #marketingresearch & #consumerresearch.

I feel like I've been beating that drum for years. But the new #ICO report (https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/media-centre/news-and-blogs/2022/10/immature-biometric-technologies-could-be-discriminating-against-people-says-ico-in-warning-to-organisations/) seems to be driving the latest craze.

I feel people are missing the point though. It's not the tools. It's the people and their overestimation of #AI for use #emotionresearch.

‘Immature biometric technologies could be discriminating against people’ says ICO in warning to organisations

The Information Commissioner's Office is warning organisations to assess the public risks of using emotion analysis technologies, before implementing these systems. Organisations that do not act responsibly, posing risks to vulnerable people, or fail to meet ICO expectations will be investigated.

A colleague is doing a lit review on recent developments in the emotion regulation literature. Any recent articles that stick out to folks as particularly noteworthy or interesting?

Also happy to be pointed at emotion researcher accounts here--I'm just getting integrated into communities in the tootisphere.
