Netflix (choke! sob!) DVD watch. This is the first Black Emanuelle movie that was a let down. It has all the usual stuff i.e. lots of travelogue footage, casual sexual assault, naked women gently hugging, but it ends up a bit tired. More importantly, it only takes place in Bangkok for half the film where they just do the usual touristy stuff i.e, Ankor Watt, that weird roundabout everybody drives through, kickboxing, cockfighting, etc. , and then it switches to Casablanca in Morocco where it just seems like generic, Middle Eastern, desert stuff. The main problem is that there's usually some kind super big scoop Emnuelle's investigating but it's absent here, so the story just stumbles from one softcore interlude to another. This is fine if that's what you're looking for or if you're watching this late at night on Cinemax in 1984, but I guess I'm just more demanding of my vintage smut viewing. A fella's gotta have some standards.

The Black Emanuelle movies are probably the definition of "problematic" with all the misogyny, colonialism, and mondo movie cultural rubber necking, but I'll be damned if they aren't worth their weight in gold in awesome travelogue footage. I know it was all meant as padding in between the hot and heavy sexy times, but because of that, ""Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade" gives you glorious stretches of grimy and gritty 70s NYC and authentically real you-are-there footage of 70's Kenya. Sure, well heeled and polished A-list movies did their share of globe trotting, but they were always stage managed and art directed within an inch of their life. Here a skeleton crew of crazy Italians hopped on a plane with a load of film, a camera, and I guess couple of shiny boards, and just shot the shit of the world in authentic, jet-set fashion. Definitely not for everybody, but I dug it.
