@JustinGerdes We're past too many ecosystem tipping points, to waste good money on collapsing fossil fules/grid tied economies. Even emerging economies are victim to shrinking conversion windows. These Hydrogen companies want to recoup their initial investments, in the face of increasing collapse.

It would take tremendous foresight from alliances in those more sustainable value spaces, in order to scale.

🏭 They also generate sizable congestion revenues – over the past five years, German transmission operators (TSOs) could have earned an average of 1.2 billion euros per year. Such revenues could help cushion energy-intensive #industry in southern Germany.

Germany should chart a roadmap to local pricing in coordination with European partners – aligning investment with major demand centres, rewarding flexibility (#EVs, #heatpumps, #electrolysers, #storage) and safeguarding reliability. 3/x

💡 How can the efficiency and selectivity of #CO2 #electrolysers be increased? Scientists from Fraunhofer UMSICHT, among others, have been working on this question. In focus: the catalytic layer and its architecture. Their results have now been published in the journal “RSC Sustainability”, presenting a promising stacked catalytic layer platform towards decoupling CO2 reduction, ion and electron transport within the catalytic layer of zero-gap electrolysers. #CCU

🗓️ The cost for #electrolysers and #fuelcells needs to be reduced and field experience in the application of these various #hydrogen technologies needs to be gained. Fraunhofer UMSICHT deals with various issues in a wide variety of projects in order to meet these challenges – from reducing stack costs to industrializing the production of electrolysers. UMSICHT scientist Anna Greve will provide insights at the “hy-fcell Canada” conference on June 18 in Vancouver.
