So the Mrs. had a spill at 4 pm yesterday---damned ice.

To ER by 5 pm, xray at 8:30 pm, and at 11 pm she saw the ortho.

Are you kidding?

Small local hospital, just the kind thaty will fail under the new cuts to medicaid/care. But it's the one people use. And not the staff's fault, as far aswe couldtell...just UNDER STAFFED.

Fractured upper humerus, and it wasn't funny. Seeing ortho (who did her hips and shoulder) Monday if we can get in. Thankful for good sturdy Irish bones.

Have I ever stated publicly here that I feel incredibly fortunate to have insurance?

I was stupid and ate something that was left out too long on Monday. It’s now Thursday night, haven’t been able to eat or drink anything since then. Dehydrated, the ER filled me back up and hopefully with the right meds to fix the symptoms and knock out the cause. Bleh.

Welp, since I'm at the ER waiting I'll post an update. Need to be calling an orthopedic tomorrow for my right knee because it keeps popping in and out of place. Nothing bone wise wrong, so I need an mri. Er is giving me a knee brace so that's a start. This definitely will help my case when I bring up to my pcp on the 8th that I wanna be checked out for #hEDS done a ton of research and have no idea how I wouldn't have it. And an update on my Birger boy, he has started the next step in scent training and started the alert training. Somehow he's figured out my low heart rate without me teaching him. I thought I fell back asleep this morning, woke up to him barking and nudging me. Looked at my fitbit turns out my heart rate was in the 40s. I had blacked out in bed and hadn't even noticed. He amazes me more and more everyday.

Bit of a dog fight today while my wife was working from home. My eufe broke it up, BUT...
She lost the end of her ring finger! And of course, I did find it once I got to cleaning up.

Let me tell you, those crime shows nail fake body parts. It looked fake, was real. Oof.

Should a Resident Help Do Your Kid’s Tonsil Surgery?
YES. When a trainee takes part, the incidence of an urgent postop ER visit is reduced 42%. #tonsillectomy #resident #bleeding #ERvisit

Howard G. Smith MD, AM on Instagram: "Should a Resident Help Do Your Kid’s Tonsil Surgery? While many parents of children entering a university teaching hospital for a tonsillectomy will say, “ I don’t want a student involved in my child’s surgery,” they would be making the wrong choice since the answer is YES. A University of Buffalo study now shows that children having their tonsils removed are 40% more less likely to require an urgent post-op ER visit if a resident takes part in the surgery. The researchers reviewed the cases of 2,051 children having tonsillectomies. Those kids who had a resident take part in their operations were 42% less likely to require an emergency visit later on. Even more interesting: the rate of post-op bleeding, the most dreaded tonsillectomy complication, was the same whether or not a resident took part. Only age was a factor in such bleeding with older patients experiencing more. If your child’s surgeon plans to include a trainee, the best bet is to welcome that young doctor to the team. Remember that residents are in training to learn techniques from their attending. When I and most of my colleagues operate with residents, we instruct the trainee to perform the procedure exactly as we would. If they stray from our roadmap, we take over. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0196070924000991?via=ihub #tonsillectomy #resident #bleeding #ERvisit"

Various tests conducted. IV and antibiotics in the arm. Mom came to keep me company. Ultrasound definitely looked at exactly where it hurts. I think the Tylenol is wearing off though. #ERVisit
