We hit a huge milestone yesterday at the iBestuur conference 🔥 We showed the progress on #MijnBureau (opensource gov office suite) and #DAWO (Digitally Autonomous Workspace Gov).
MijnBureau is an initiative by @BZKopensource which promotes #opensource alternatives to big tech. DAWO handles underlying components, such as Linux desktops & phones. This is an #EDIC collaboration 🇪🇺

Interestingly, they have a Minister for Digitalisation. They start with LibreOffice, "with a full transition to open-source software by the end of the year."
Motivations are (licensing) costs and political tensions, to protect data and reduce reliance on foreign tech.
Of course MS can waive the upcoming licensing costs, and they might return to US tech dependency. But many governments are now making similar, or more audacious transitions.
I wonder why the Danes didn't yet join the EDIC for Digital Commons? There's important shared investments being made, e.g. in collaborative workspaces...
So cool to see @lea_bei (@zendis ), Emma Ghariani (@numerique_gouv ) and Aditya Singh (@openfuture ) give a great talk about the governance structure of the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) 🇪🇺
The EDIC is the place where EU member states work together on Digital Commons, such as the opensource workspaces LaSuite 🇲🇫, OpenDesk 🇩🇪, and MijnBureau 🇳🇱.
