well now i am really getting the shits. my #cunningplan teeters on the brink of ruin, & for the stupidest most galling of reasons... none of the #distroboxes i create, will actually fucken START. they just hang at

[~] 18:31:47 Sat May 02 $> distrobox enter DebianTestingDB Starting container...
that was 25' ago

or another
[~] 18:37:41 Sat May 02 $> distrobox enter my-alpine-container Starting container...
or
[~] 16:48:42 Sat May 02 $> distrobox enter testdb Starting container... i abandoned that one after 90' of nothing happening.

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฏ

as the sunniness of da sunroom is now beginning to decline, as per normal diurnal cycle, i be gonna soonish decamp back to da study where prolly the worst of da icicles might have thawed by now [a tad afore noon], thar to be back onto Proper Pooter, in lieu of sunroom's Pretend Pooter [ie, merely a 2011 lappy].

on said ProP i be gonna make a list of all my
โ€‹โ€‹ #archlinux #AUR pkgs installed, then cross-match them to pkg availability in say โ€‹โ€‹ #Debian #Sid n โ€‹โ€‹ #Fedora #Rawhide . if i get a reasonably high correlation, i then be gonna install such pkgs in Sid or Rawhide #Distroboxes, & uninstall them from AUR.

why?

1. tis getting pretty tiring with all the now-sadly-frequent
#DDoS attacks on the poor ol' AUR
2. though i am rigorous in inspecting the
#PKGBUILD for each prospective pkg before proceeding to install from AUR, i must admit i am largely pathetic in bothering to do #diffs of them before each subsequent update
3. as a congenitally depressed
#misanthropist who views the sour state of this wretched rock around her with its apparently nonstop rise in malicious arseholery & shitfuckery, i pessimistically expect increasing probability of AUR becoming an attack vector, so in such gloomy scenario i judge sticking to official #repos likely to be a saner choice for me given my #2

#DropbearPooterising #Linux #LinuxWomen #FOSS
โ€‹โ€‹ #Kinoite | โ€‹โ€‹ โ€‹โ€‹ #ArchLinux #KDEPlasma
โ€‹โ€‹ #SparkyLinux | โ€‹โ€‹ #Kalpa | โ€‹โ€‹ โ€‹โ€‹ #KDELinux
โ€‹โ€‹ #FirefoxNightly #FirefoxSecondSidebar #TreeStyleTab #Sidebery

An absolutely huge failing of my #Kinoite on Lappy is the atm 100% inability to be able to connect to my dad's pooter to do some tech support for him. Both #AnyDesk & #RustDesk work fine for that critical task from my Tower's #ArchLinux #KDE #Plasma. Ofc that's not an immutable, but it is #Wayland. Trouble is, atm Tower is all disconnected & partly pulled apart, for reasons.

In Lappy's Kinoite [also Wayland]:

  • AD & RD Flatpaks did not work [cannot now recall any specifics, twas a week ago]
  • AD & RD #Distroboxes also DNW.
  • AD layered onto the core system with rpm-ostree does launch, does let me connect to him, but uselessly then presents an entirely blank window, ffs
  • RD layered onto the core system with rpm-ostree does launch only in as much as its icon then appears on the Plasma panel task manager, but its actual window is entirely transparent, ie, invisible. In fact i can only know it's there via Plasma's Overview & Desktop Grid, in which is manifests as a rectangular border of transparent content [ie, i just see my own desktop wallpaper thru it]

Given dad rang me for help, i'm gonna hafta partly put Tower back together again & use it. I am really unimpressed.

How on earth do other users of Kinoite manage to use AD or RD?

#DadsPooterProject

My new fav VM, ergo distro candidate once the day finally arrives when i utterly destroy my #ArchLinux Host & need to reinstall.

#Aurora #UniversalBlue #Fedora #KDEPlasma #Distrobox

1/5/24: Created from aurora-latest.iso via https://getaurora.dev/, which is based on Fedora Kinoite 40 afaik.
Did auto-partitioning, with LUKS.

4/5/24: This distro is impressive!

  • Includes nice native system updater tool [its Plasma & Frameworks versions match Arch's], nice lean pkg suite from original installation, & a bloody fabbo native GUI tool for creating innumerable #Distroboxes.
  • I created an #Arch one, in which i installed yay & thence ConkyManager2, & exported it [via that GUI tool] to the Aurora/Fedora/Plasma App Menu. It all works brilliantly.
  • So this distro is better than Fedora's #Kinoite IMO coz these lovely #QoL touches. I get the stability & hand-holding of an atomic Fedora KDE base, seamless Flatpak installation via Discover, & the full range of #AUR goodness via Distrobox.
  • Win! ๐ŸŽ‰๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ๏ธ
