"In reality, the ‘Law of Unintended Consequences’ is the justification used by successive administrations for social policies which were always destined to cause preventable harm, and guarantees that no administration will be held to account for what is government-induced human suffering on a vast scale."

In 2025 I spent £90 a week on care.
I spent over £2000 on mobility aids, including repairs/servicing, though the year for my mobility scooters, plus an unknown amount charging my scooters.
I spent at least an extra £15 a week on fuel in the cooler months compared with years when I was more active.
Not sure about taxis in total, but between £15-30 a month.
Plus the costs of ready meals and prepared veg packs for my bad weeks, when I have very little ability to do all that low budget cooking poorer people *should* do.

This is all money that goes to other people from my bank, mostly businesses.

My disability benefit? The amount the government contributes towards the extra costs of being disabled.
From April 2025 it was £73.90 a week.

Yet somehow the media and politicians convince people we get loads of extra money. And everytime the media stories increase, it heralds new cuts for disabled people; it's about scapegoating and cuts to our income.

The stock market is failing according to the CBI. So why don’t we just let it go?

I posted this on Twitter this morning: https://twitter.com/RichardJMurphy/status/1942861045426516103 My point is serious. The CBI is saying that the situation with regard to the UK stock exchange is getting desperate, because it is losing out to overseas markets and not attracting sufficient business. The question that needs to be asked is, why is that?...

“Misleading”, “rushed”, and “unfair” consultation on work capability assessment reforms declared unlawful – an important victory for Disabled people | Disability Rights UK

Disability Rights UK (#DRUK), said: “With almost 60 per cent of #Covid deaths being those of #disabled people, it is hardly surprising that the Covid inquiry found that pre-#pandemic planning failed to take sufficient account of those with pre-existing conditions, those living in deprivation or those from minority ethnic communities.”

Hate speech, snooping and benefits: How government policy has ‘violated disabled people’s rights’

Disabled people in the UK have their rights undermined by government policies in the disability benefits system, social care and housing.

The Big Issue

“The #UK signed the #disabilities convention in 2009, but it has still not been incorporated into British law.
In 2016, an inquiry by the #UN's Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (#UNCRPD) found that the UK was in breach of three of the Convention's articles
The same inquiry found that welfare reforms introduced since 2010 had "adversely" affected #disabled people.”
