Anyone got their mystery CP53E notice from the IRS yet? They now want to force you to use id.ME to force you to provide your bank details online to receive a refund via direct deposit, or wait a few months for a paper check.

I'll use the IRS online account via login.gov, but id.Me is not happening.

Until #directfile is back, it's paper and snail mail.

#IRS Direct File, the electronic system for filing #tax returns for #free, will not be offered next year, the #Trump admin has confirmed.

An email sent Monday from IRS official Cynthia Noe to state comptrollers that participate in the #DirectFile program said that “IRS Direct File will not be available in Filing Season 2026. No launch date has been set for the future.”

The program developed during #Biden’s presidency was credited by users with making tax filing easy, fast & economical.

The fate of the #DirectFile program, the #free electronic #tax return filing system developed during President #Biden’s #Democratic admin, is also unclear. #Republican lawmakers & commercial tax preparation companies had complained it was a waste of #taxpayer money because free filing programs already exist, although they are hard to use. #BillyLong said during his confirmation hearing that it would be one of the first programs that come up for discussion if he were confirmed.
