Anyone got their mystery CP53E notice from the IRS yet? They now want to force you to use id.ME to force you to provide your bank details online to receive a refund via direct deposit, or wait a few months for a paper check.

I'll use the IRS online account via login.gov, but id.Me is not happening.

Until #directfile is back, it's paper and snail mail.

So, continuing past #Facebook, I go to update my #IdMe account. While my previous TOTP app was ok, when I try to use my new one, I get a message from the new app saying that the QR code that ID.Me is displaying is invalid.

I added my YubiKey and browser's PassKey as futher (backup) authentication methods, but still frustrating that, for TOTP, I'm stranded on the other application. Oh: also can't use my "everything" phone number because it's not a number that's associated with a hardware identifier: I use a virtualized phone number because it allows both routing to all of my other voice lines/devices and because it comes with significant call-screaing and anti-spam capabilites (as far as I'm concerned, all my other voice endpoints DIDs don't exist to the rest of the world).

Don’t Let Congress Decide What We’re Allowed to Read Online

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is back—and it still threatens free expression online. It would let government officials pressure or sue platforms to block or remove lawful content—especially on topics like mental health, sexuality, and drug use. To avoid liability, platforms will over-censor. When forums or support groups get deleted, it’s not just teens who lose access—we all do. WOW! ID.me (now required to login to the IRS website) may use your personal information for the purposes of ads.

That's weird, but initially, they said they would never share your data! Except, apparently... for the purposes of ads!

Again, fuck you very much!

The ID.me Privacy Policy is discusting. The U.S. Government has no legitimate right to collect this amount of personal information and then combine it with information that is collected through other data collectors and aggregators.

FUCK YOU!
