So I discovered that #digitalocean had blocked certain ports for #smtp. As I didn’t keep with up with my email….alright I deleted them…I didn’t know and just noticed my #mastodon server wasn’t sending emails. Hasn’t for several months.

We used our own domain to handle smtp but that can’t be done any more.

After looking at all the recommendations and getting massively confused I ended up going with #postmark.

All the steps and configuration etc will be put up on my #Wiki samadam.au/mastodon. I’m documenting things now in a place I can find instead of crappy word like documents. I did that with our family tree and it works like a treat.

Cleaning things up and learning to do things properly is going well.

On this rainy day I've been migrating my brother's blog from #DigitalOcean to #Hetzner, and it seems to have all gone according to plan (including some URL rewriting; although I didn't tackle the character set change for the DB).

#DigitalOcean added an obnoxious "AI Assistant". I want to know how to disable AI features.

There is no existing question on their site.

Community Q&A takes me through SSO twice, the editor glitches 8 times (randomly deleting spaces, neat), and submitting the question 404s. The question I just fought the editor to write is gone.

I go to Support.

There is nothing but docs & an AI chat.

The AI chat has no escalation and links to the page I am on for Support.

Seems #AI disabled *me.*

[1/2] So, i updated my #Mastodon server. I have been putting this off forever because it was so much messing around. I initially installed it on a #RaspberryPi with everything running natively. I wanted to install it and hold data on #DIgitalOcean spaces, but I had issues getting the S3 driver to resovle correctly.

I also wanted to run this on #docker, but once my server was running, I just let it run for years. it was a few minor versions behind, and every further minor version, i let it ride.

I've taken the API server for my slopfarmer #webextension offline because it's been broken for a while and I haven't been working on the project. I'd like to get back to the project so I'll be spinning it back up in my #homelab rather than in #digitalocean since cloud hosting didn't solve the problem of sending #email, and I have a much more robust reverse proxy setup now.

Hoping to pick up the pieces and dig back in to code this week 😁
