I’ve run random stuff including a #gotosocial server my account is living on with #DigitalOcean. Their service is very stable.

They are slow to make available new releases of OS like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc. Often need to wait weeks or months for the image to be available. You can upload your own raw image to boot, but then for some reason, IPv6 can never be turned on. Their S3 clone is obviously ceph with some slightly weird limitations if you do advanced S3 ACL.

Fly.io also is really great if you just want to fire up a container. But their pricing doesn’t seem to make sense compared to using docker-compose on DigitalOcean.

Die meisten Kunden hätten das Geld wahrscheinlich vergessen (ich hatte das tatsächlich noch auf dem Radar), und die meisten Anbieter halten wahrscheinlich einfach "die Füße still" und sacken das Geld ein...

Ich hatte vor zwei Jahren für eine einmalige Sache ("sofortige" Bereitstellung eines #OutlineVPN Gateways für einen #Ägypten Urlaub) einen Account bei #DigitalOcean erstellt und diesen mit $5 aufgeladen.

Seitdem "gammelten" da noch $1,39 rum, die ich bisher nicht verbraucht hatte.

Heute nun erhalte ich eine Gutschrift über PayPal (damit hatte ich damals bezahlt) über diesen verbleibenden Betrag.

The #HomeLab #RemoteAccess saga has begun. I know you've all been waiting eagerly...

Smooth install of #Pangolin once I'd chosen the min VPS: 2vCPU 1GB RAM (yes cheapskate). The #DigitalOcean droplet dashboard less smooth (some things just didn't work so several restarts from scratch) but not terrible.

I won't be surprised if I chose some wrong options in the Pangolin setup but it is great to have the dashboard: oh, all the things!

Now to figure out how to get this thing working *for me* 🤪
