Web search found a handy decoder for obscure appliance error messages.
Seems that ERR001FU indicates that you bought the washing machine 3 years and a day ago, your extended warranty has just expired and any repair will cost more than a new machine.

Who do you blame for almost all non-consumable goods becoming #enshitified?
I use the term loosely to cover things like:
* #designedObsolescence
* no wiring diagrams or tech info for appliances
* short warranties
* non-replaceable batteries
* closed-source software
* IoT (aka IoS: internet of shit)
* #CAPTCHA
* cookie popups
* #walledGardens
* etc.
The US fed distributes gratis smartphones to poor people under a project called #Lifeline.
Question: are these gov-issued phones enumbered by Google or Apple? Do recipients have to agree to Google or Apple ToS? Or is the licensing and software more appropriate for a public device, thus #FOSS?
If it’s the former, thus the phones are not updated and become e-waste due to #designedObsolescence, do the feds give recipients a hardware upgrade every few years?
@normplum @Tutanota And perhaps even more interesting is to ask:
Why did you ditch Tuta?
I opened an acct just to see how the crypto was implemented, hoping it could be a hushmail replacement. Discovered that Tuta’s tech is not open standards (i.e. not openpgp). So it’s a #walledGarden & cannot serve the e2ee purpose when one party is not on the platform.
But I kept the account because there was at least a FOSS f-droid app which gave some relief from having to login manually via web app.
I *ditched* Tuta when Tuta ditched me. Tuta used #designedObsolescence pro-actively break their app on older Androids. I will not buy new hardware and partake in ecocide by #ewaste.
(edit) Then #Tuta deleted my account when I did not login often enough, which happened because I was forced to use their web UI.
Disposable vapes are not really disposable
In this video, YouTuber Largely Unemployed demonstrates that disposable vapes can be refurbished with very little effort.

#Capitalism #designedObsolescence #disposable #vapes #wasteThatIsNotWaste
If a #smartphone maker decides to stop maintaining or distributing a device for which the hardware could still function for decades ahead, should there be legislation against this #designedObsolescence?
key:
PD → public domain
GNU FOSS → free software with FSF assigned as the custodian (though for the poll assume they have a choice of impartial custodians [would be weird for law to impose using FSF])
h/w → hardware

If someone advocates for high prices on products that do social and/or environmental harm¹ as a means for harm reduction, are they “classist”?
① e.g.:
* cars (registration, parking, procurement, etc)
* fuel for cars
* air travel
* animal products
* vented tumble dryers
* hardware w/ #designedObsolescence
“qyes” → qualified yes
