#JuliaChuñilCatricura is a 72-year-old #Mapuche leader who defended her community’s ancestral land from #forestry expansion in southern #Chile. Last November, she vanished without a trace while herding animals in the forest. Her family says she had received #threats after refusing to give up her land for money, and they believe her #disappearance is no accident.

Julia is not the first Indigenous land defender to go missing or be harmed.

These activists are dedicated to protecting the environment and defending human rights in Cambodia – and they have been sentenced to six to eight years in prison for their actions. On April 30, the Supreme Court will decide on their request for bail.
