I just made a Library to allow arbitrary file storage using Steam as the backend. Requires space to be available in the save data of your games.
I can see a lot of potential uses for this, from storing other game's save data, mods, and even things like assets to be applied to steam itself for when you re-install Steam, just need a tool that knows how to retrieve and apply the files.
Would love to see this integrated with #Decky

So... Wrote a #blog post about using #Steam as #Cloud #storage
I think it has potential to be a great addition to #Decky to store your #Emulator saves inside of Steam
I bet you didn’t know this was possible, right? So here’s some backstory: Years ago I was thinking about how annoying it is that I can’t store save files for other games in Steam; As well as technically arbitrary files like Mods. Steam’s API is pretty restrictive, at least on the client, for what files can be stored where. Files have to be in specific folders, specified by the developer of the game, and so on. It’s not incredibly useful honestly, other than for that specific game.
So I did not install #wanderer onto my selhosted stack as initially planned, but instead another very cool service: RomM
A place to organize ROMs for #emulation and even play them in integrated emulators in the browser.
Even better: There is a #decky plugin for the #steamdeck to sync all save-files and load ROMs directly from my server into retrodeck! So cool!
