Beginning to plan a course for Spring Semester 2026 on "The Grateful Dead: Music, Literature, Culture"

I didn't start listening to the Good Ol' Grateful Deadcast when it started in May 2020, but I have listened to most of the episodes in the p...

Steve Silberman (1957-2024): The Grateful Dead, journalism, the history of autism, and a lively presence on social media

I first heard of Steve Silberman (1957-2024) at the latest in 1994, when he published "Skeleton Key: A Dictionary for Deadheads" with David ...

Extremely cute factoid on today’s #Deadcast: Ned Lagin’s parents came to the Seastones debut on 6.23.74. Major props to @bourgwick for this treasure of a podcast
@bourgwick Quick question: There was a clip during the "Scarlet" #deadcast where it sounded like Jerry playing an acoustic version. It was around the time when you were discussing the lack of takes for the song -- that they came right into the studio with it ready to go. Can I ask where that is from?
@bourgwick , not sure if you’re yet aware of this, but the new #DeadCast has audio issues beginning approximately 1hr 40mins in. The voice narration is overlaid on top of the music and there are dead air gaps as a result. It’s frustratingly confusing
@Rosey on a side note, as has become the norm, I learned yet another mind-blowing fact courtesy of @bourgwick and the #DeadCast. The bassist (I think it was the bassist) from Taper’s Choice was in the band Real Estate. Their version of Here Comes Sunshine from Day of the Dead was one of my favourites from that release. Now it all makes sense
@bourgwick really starting off this new podcast (which we've all been waiting for!) by just messing with our ears. glad you're having so much fun with the #Deadcast

Wake Of The Flood 50: Stella Blue

Listen to this episode from GOOD OL' GRATEFUL DEADCAST on Spotify. A personal favorite of both Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter, we explore how “Stella Blue” grew from New York’s fertile Chelsea Hotel into one of the great American songs, plus Bruce Hornsby on how Wake of the Flood made him a Dead fan.GUESTS: Elvis Costello, Bruce Hornsby, David Lemieux, Nick Paumgarten, Scott Metzger, Shaugn O’Donnell, Nick BushSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

@bourgwick thanks for your #Deadcast nod to Arlo Guthrie !
@bourgwick I just finished the Deadcast episode on “Operator” and started the episode on “Candyman”. It’s great to hear the recording of Bob, Jerry, and Phil working on harmonies! But with Pigpen on my mind, I wonder why Pigpen doesn’t participate in the harmony singing. Has there ever been any explanation for his not being included? #GratefulDead #Deadcast #Harmonies #JerryGarcia #BobWeir #PhilLesh #Pigpen

EDIT: I think the tickets are gone now. Still a fun discord though

Yo if any #deadheads in the Virginia area could use two miracle (free) tickets to tonight's #DeadandCompany show there, there's an offer in the strangers-helping-strangers channel of the GD Discord that's been sitting there since yesterday. No I cannot broker the deal for you, yes discord is easy to figure out. Here's the server link https://discord.gg/gratefuldead

Btw this is also where #deadcast discussion is
