Taking a risk planting wallflowers out on the allotment, what with pigeons and fleabeetle. But for the price of a packet of seeds worth it if they perform and I get loads of scented flowers in early May. The bed was chopped and dropped a month ago and covered with cardboard. Lifted today and cardboard with accompanying slugs went on the compost. All my beds get this treatment and it does help with slug control. The soil is full of worms and invertebrates.

September sown hardy annuals doing well and nearly ready for planting out under low hoops covered with environmesh to protect from the worst of the weather. Trays of seeds were placed in 32 litre clear storage boxes and the germination rate has been excellent. Growing for cut flowers means producing plants from seed at volume right throw until june to ensure succession. It's going to be a bit of a juggling act as I will still be growing veg for Mr Ms plot.

Still managing to pick a few flowers for the house!

The dahlias are going strong and the zinnias are the best for years.

Itโ€™s just as well I have a sizeable collection of vases.
