I'm glad that Scotland is seeing the light here.
However, I'm infuriated at the response from the UK government:
"Her statement is likely to trigger a constitutional row between the Scottish Government and the Home Office which controls UK-wide drug laws and remains steadfastly opposed to consumption rooms, repeatedly insisting there is no safe way to take illegal drugs."
One problem with this is that what is considered "illegal" is highly arbitrary and frankly unsupported by... drum roll... *SCIENCE*! If you think you're going to convince me that there is no safe way to take marijuana, which is still illegal at the federal level in the US, you've got another thing coming.
The other problem is that this is a straw man. I don't see anyone arguing that there *is* a "safe way" to take opium or cocaine. Like other things in life, this is about harm reduction. Those people who would presumably use a consumption room would do it in a controlled environment, rather than try their luck on the street and maybe get a batch of crap product that kills them.
People who fail to realize this are bloody idiots. The UK government is really trying hard to channel the US government here.
