A #ConstitutionalConvention opened in Philadelphia on #ThisDayInHistory in 1787. From its labours came the first modern republic, one built on #slavery & #genocide. It's a shame folks haven't managed to improve it more, as the US is now very far behind the rest of the free world.

Just a reminder that a US constitutional convention is a trap.

Some well-meaning people say, "Think how much better we could make it!"

Please also consider how much worse it could be.

Whoever is in that room will decide what is on the new one. Nothing about our current structure is guaranteed to remain.

For anything wrong with the current constitution and amendments, please instead propose new, precisely targeted amendments to improve on what we have.

We're building something unprecedented: a citizen-driven process to modernize our Constitution. The National Advisory Panel needs volunteers from every background and political perspective. This isn't about left vs right. It's about giving Americans a real voice in our democracy's future. A constitutional convention isn’t rebellion.
It’s maintenance.
If the machinery drifts, you repair it.
You don’t scream at the noise.

Democratic Drift.

If one good thing can come out of the horrors of the Trump Regime it is America realizing it was not just MAGA causing whatever this is but the whole American political system enabling it and the American people demanding a grass roots peoples constitutional convention to create a new system and constitution from first principles leaning from the rest of the world what is good and what is bad.

@codinghorror
you nail it, its foolishly easy to game the needy as there is no right to food in the constitution because apparently after the natives bailed out the hungry mayflower bunch etal the founders' forgot all about how important it is not to starve. doc desperately needs a re-write so make the wakeup call for six am please, thanks.

Attached: 2 images I end with a warning Ben Franklin issued at the 1787 Constitutional Convention. I think it describes perfectly what America is meant to resist, and what we are protesting tomorrow. NO KINGS. β€œSir, there are two passions which have a powerful influence on the affairs of men. These are ambition and avarice; the love of power, and the love of money. Separately each of these has great force in prompting men to action; but when united in view of the same object, they have in many minds the most violent effects. [P]lace before the eyes of such men a post of HONOR that shall at the same time be a place of PROFIT, and they will move heaven and earth to obtain it. … And of what kind are the men that will strive for this profitable pre-eminence, through all the bustle of cabal, the heat of contention, the infinite mutual abuse of parties, tearing to pieces the best of characters? It will not be the wise and moderate, the lovers of peace and good order, the men fittest for the trust. It will be the bold and the violent, the men of strong passions and indefatigable activity in their selfish pursuits. These will thrust themselves into your Government and be your rulers. … making our posts of honor, places of profit [will] only nourish the foetus of a KING”. β€”BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, June 1787, as recorded in John Madison’s notes of the Constitutional Convention 2/2

The next day, James McHenry, a delegate to the #ConstitutionalConvention, recorded in his diary that a lady had asked delegate #BenjaminFranklin whether the convention had established a #republic or a #monarchy. β€œA republic,” Franklin said, β€œif you can keep it.” open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

George Washington was a Founding Father and the first president of the United States. Born in Virginia, he opposed the perceived oppression of the American colonists by the British Crown and was commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. After...

Yuck.

I create a corrupt-Trump action classification called #MonkeyWrenchTheSystem and then ideas of how to do it bigly start gathering;

#MartialLaw
#ConstitutionalConvention
#ExpandSCOTUS

Others?

Thing is - the #Project2025 folk will have been gathering all these together for years I think. If so they've got a book full of them. And with action pathways attached.
