Un eroe della Repubblica. Enrico Mattei, protagonista dell'indipendenza economica e dello sviluppo nel dopoguerra della nuova Italia. La sua scelta avvenne proprio qui vicino, a Matelica, per entrare a far parte, successivamente, del Comando del Corpo Volontari della Libertà e, in questa qualità, sfilare, insieme ad altri comandanti, alla testa dei partigiani vittoriosi il 5 maggio 1945 a Milano. E nelle Marche, nell'entroterra maceratese – ricorda -, ebbe modo di operare Sandro Pertini, settimo presidente della nostra Repubblica, dopo la fuga dal carcere di Regina Coeli di Roma – compiuta insieme a Giuseppe Saragat, quinto presidente della Repubblica”.
