Maurice Levitas was born at Warren Street, in the Portobello area of Dublin on 1 February 1917. He was known to his family and friends as "Morry". His parents, Harry Levitas and Leah Rick, having emigrated to Ireland from Lithuania and Latvia in 1912. He joined the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1933. 1/2
