It also needs to be said that #CollegePoint is now one of the most notorious #Republican bastions in #NYC, and that it is one of the last areas of the city that is still mostly single-family and duplex homes. Residents are extremely unlikely to welcome a major housing project on the edge of town. Planned development has a very poor history in NYC.

The big green triangle is one of the largest contiguous undeveloped and unused areas of land in the entirety of #NYC. Even the commercial/industrial development surrounding the site is relatively new, dating to the 1980s and 1990s, because it is a swamp.

Anyone who has lived in the #CollegePoint #Queens area for a long time knows that you don't drive down Linden Place when there have been heavy rains, and the flooding is not getting less frequent, due to climate change.

It should go without saying the the land values of #NewYorkCity exceed those of anywhere else in the US, and #CollegePoint's proximity to the Whitestone Bridge, Van Wyck and Long Island Expressways, as well as the LIRR and subway in Flushing, not to mention #Flushing Meadow and Citi Field, make it an obvious choice for development.

So ask yourself, why hasn't this already been done? The answer is very simple, because making money at it is not feasible without several cubic miles of landfill.

This is nothing but #vaporware peddling. Eric Adams is on the ropes and desperate to try and recapture the votes he is losing to #Mamdani.

My family lived in #CollegePoint for 97 years, from 1922 to 2015. The area involved is a swamp, lowlands that are subject to frequent flooding. They have lain fallow for decades because they are not suitable for development without massive environmental remediation. #urbanism #Queens #NYCpol

A someone who would describe herself as a *very left wing* libertarian queer woman of color, it tickles me pink that my family's home, #CollegePoint #Queens, is part of the NY-14 congressional district, so it's represented in DC by #AOC, but it's also represented on the #NYC City Council by the wretched Vickie Paladino, who is exemplary of the kind of reactionary conservatism that currently rules College Point.

Paladino *hates* bicycles and bicyclists with a passion.

#NPR's Leila Fadel shamefully badgered #Mamdani to answer the same questions over and over again that he'd already answered very skillfully and clearly.

Kicker: I'm from #CollegePoint #NYC, #AOC's NY-14.

My #urbanism difficulty with the concept of the #15minCity is that while I am happy to ride transit for maybe an hour for the occasional special event, in no way am I interested in walking more than 5 min from my door for daily tasks.

I could tolerate a 5 min walk to the subway station, a 20 min ride, and a 5 min walk from station to office at the end. Certainly, that would be far shorter than my commute during my high school years from #CollegePoint #Queens to #StuyvesantHS in #Manhattan #NYC

George Santos’ Massive Campaign Loans May Not Be Legal

Rep.-elect George Santos managed to loan his campaign $700,000. How he did that has been a bit of a mystery. But it also may have been illegal.
