Luke Kemp's "Goliath's Curse" offers interesting perspectives on past, present, and future societal #collapses.

It travels a similar path to Tainter's "Collapse of Complex Societies", in that societies collapse when they can no longer sustain their complexity, but goes further and claims that is caused by the rise of "goliaths" - extractive, power-seeking individuals and organizations that seek to dominate for their own benefit.

He also illustrates that societies tend to do better after a collapse when it comes to individual health and wealth, using home sizes and heights as a proxy.

It falls apart in the 3rd act, where Kemp points to the signs of Goliath around us and offers limited advice on how to deal with it (rule 1: don't be a dick - gives you a sense of the advice).

However, it is an expansive and well-researched book, very readable, and with lessons I hope we take soon.
