@diraquel @point5a @Vivaldi I’m familiar with Firefox fans, and I should add it to my list of search engines, including the #DuckDuckGo #iPhone #app. #VivaldiBrowser is ideal for power users who want heavy customization, built-in tools like #VivaldiMail and #RSS, and #ChromiumBased performance. It’s feature-rich but can feel overwhelming for casual users.

#Firefox prioritizes #privacy, #pensource #transparency, and #independence with its own #browser. It’s a leaner option with strong #BrowserSecurity features and great for those who value user-first design.

Choose Vivaldi for advanced features, or Firefox for privacy and open-source support!

I think it's time to change browser.

I won't use #GoogleChrome or #MicrosoftEdge, because because I regard both of those companies as toxic and dangerous for the open internet.

I am currently using a #Chromium-based browser, but recent news and revelations of the vendor's behaviour -- installing s/w without the knowledge or consent of the user -- makes me a little wary[1].

I am looking for a web browser that ...

  • ... is available under a #FreeSoftware (or #OpenSource if you insist) licence,
  • ... seeks, at least a little bit, to protect my #privacy,
  • ... will render modern web pages and sites (i.e. is itself up-to-date and is actively maintained)
  • ... will available for Linux

I'm happy to support such a project with regular donations, so it's not that I'm looking for a free-as-in-beer browser. I'm also happy for it to be either chromium-based or firefox-based (or based on some other engine I'm not aware of!).

Can you suggest something? Thanks.

[1] There's also the question of the social/political views of the head of the vendor, which has always made be uncomfortable. You know now it's a problem for me, so please don't @ me about thatt.

While CVE-2023-4863 #vulnerability came to light in a context of #chromiumbased browsers, this vulnerability also affects many other things making use of #libwebp - many of these systems being less protected than a web browser.
Alert: No Google Topics in Vivaldi Browser

Spying on people’s behavior & profiling them is wrong. That’s why we have made sure that Google’s Topics is disabled in two separate ways in Vivaldi browser.

Vivaldi Browser
@voxel Using a #chromiumbased #browser strengthens #google's #monopol further. I wouldn' use a chromium based browser for that reason. The only #chromium based browser i use is #vanadium on #grapheneos.
@malwaretech
So we should tell people so #UninstallChrome as soon as possible, switching to other #browsers. I mainly suggest #Firefox.
Can we really suggest #chromiumbased #browsers?
@quinta

#brave #chromium #chromiumbased #android

1) nice, I can now convert stuff with a button press?

2) Wait... it wants to pipe something to a different app?

3) Ok wow, it calls a search engine with a predefined query.
Not what I expected but it gets the job done 😆😆😆

Though, at the end of the day, the #Naver #Whale browser is still my top #Chromium-based browser of choice.

My review of
#NaverWhale: https://im.youronly.one/techmagus/kb/internet/naver-whale-browser-2022209/

To add to my review, the
#Android version of Naver Whale gives you an option to lock the app. Even if you install a website as a PWA, it will be behind that app lock.

A feature that doesn't exist in
#Mozilla #Firefox, #Google #Chrome, #Zoho #Ulaa, and #SamsungInternet, Android browsers.
Naver Whale, a better Chromium-based browser

So, #Zoho launched their own #Chromium-based browser called #Ulaa. According to them, it is a #PrivacyCentric browser.

It is available for
#Android, #Linux (tested on #PopOS 22.04 LTS), and #Windows.

What I like it about it are (in no particular order):

1. Different “modes”. Each mode have a default setting related to
#privacy. The modes are: Personal, Work, Dev, Kids, and Open Season (the “like-any-other-browser” mode).

Choose one mode, and forget it. You don't have to go through every single setting to set it up the way you want. But of course, it's still better to check.

2. You can sync with your Zoho account.

If you are using Zoho products, for personal or work, this is a very good option. You can separate your Google-based sync data from your other data.
