One of the things I love most about
#photography are the random chains of unexpected connections we sometimes make. I spent half an hour waiting in the car park of an eye hospital, in chauffeur mode, for a friend. I spotted a
#door in the wall of a
#factory exterior just across from a stream. A large ventilation unit was next to it. Architecturally appealing in an
#industrial sense.
Later, while editing in Snapseed, I stumbled across a style suggestion that transformed the image. The heavy
#vignette and aged tones reminded me of the iris-in / iris-out transitions used in
#SilentFilms, particularly Fritz Lang's Metropolis - one of my favourite films, and long overdue a rewatch.
I ended up down a rabbit hole of learning about the New Objectivity movement and the work of Albert Renger-Patzsch, whose photographs focused on the beauty of industry, architecture, machinery, and everyday structures. I definitely plan on looking at his work some more.
Anyway, here is my
#CheesebeesPhotoChallenge2026Week22 photo for today. Heavily edited, but I love where it took me.
