Seattle made it easier to operate a food truck as part of the #CafeStreets regulations. Hopefully we see a flourishing of them in Seattle as a result. Nothing better to activate an parking lot of vacant lot edge.

#Portland is the food cart capital of the U.S. I can never get enough of them! :) This is the "Lil' America" pod. Other cities do food TRUCKS--yuck! :) Trucks move continually, by definition.

Seattleites enthusiastic about making city's streets more people-centric, NPI poll finds

Even when it comes to seemingly contentious transportation projects that require converting a lane or traffic or parking spaces, Seattle voters are overwhelmingly supportive, a poll recently conducted for the Northwest Progressive Institute finds.

Congratulations to (*checks notes*) Houston, Texas on your new 7 block long pedestrianized street! If car-centric Houston can do it, so can any American city. #CafeStreets #StreetsForPeople

Outdoor dining closures on Main Street are here to stay: 'More welcoming space'

During the early days of COVID-19 restrictions, portions of Main Street were closed to make room for outdoor dining. The program would end on March 31, but the city voted to make this permanent.

Cities that are shutting down your #cafestreets in the winter, what are you thinking? This is Seattle in March.
Patrick is a big supporter of #CafeStreets and can be seen in SNG's video on this: http://seattlegreenways.org/cafestreets/

Going to clarify that Patrick’s comment called out some of the historic board members pushing materiality as an excuse to tear down the pergolas for not being brick and iron. Indeed, a big fucking problem. Patrick has been very proactive in developing a smarter solution.

Some in the Ballard historic district review board have called the pergolas an "eyesore."

Which setup is more of an eyesore?
Which setup enhances the sense of place, history, and character?

The idea that private SUVs parked everywhere is somehow better than tables, chairs, and planters is fundamentally flawed. #CafeStreets

In the wake of the news that Seattle's cafe streets — permits for using curb space for outdoor dining — are permanent options, can I humbly request that we call them Road Diets https://www.axios.com/local/seattle/2022/12/14/street-cafes-permanent-seattle-vote via @[email protected] #urbanism #seattle #cafestreets #greenways #walkablecity #cities #urbandesign #roads #puns #wordplay #localnews

The pandemic program that allowed for more street and sidewalk cafes was set to expire in January.

This is a great move by the Seattle City Council. The fact that Pedersen and Nelson voted for the measure speaks volumes about the popularity of the cafe streets program. #Seattle #CafeStreets
