Sam at BLAGToday's test of my humanity got me wondering: why don't we have CAPTCHAs that ask us to select all squares with hand-painted signs in them? Or with ghost signs, or with a sign painter working, or with a mahl stick?

- Humans are slower and more error prone than machines so it's rather a stochastic guesswork by non-uniform response delays to identify if it's made by a human.
- Since any #bot is paid for by runtime, storage, compute demands and traffic, it makes a delay of 2-5+ seconds that a human needs to klick,and AutoFill a form prohibitively expensive by comparison.

Exactly. I do have LibreSearch (LibreY) instance of my own, but that is still not good enough for real world. The same way I had tried few other to self host for family, but am struggling to get past the #null responses or #captchas stuff.
Also, captcha sometimes become necessary or maybe #anubis like stuff for the crap #bots

Andy TsengI hadn’t noticed until I came across this piece - there really are far fewer CAPTCHAs around these days! Maybe AI’s just too good at cracking them, and there’s no real alternative. Funny how most of us didn’t even notice.
