With 80% of butterflies having declined since the 1970s and a third of moth numbers having fallen in that same period, the time has come to tell the Government enough is enough. Our message to GovernmentWe're calling on the Government to:Declare a nature emergencyImplement an immediate and permanent ban on butterfly-harming neonicotinoid pesticides, without exceptions. If you agree, sign our letter and join leading conservation figures in calling on the Government to take action now.

"Thirty years ago you wouldn't have seen a Holly Blue in Scotland, but now it has expanded where it lives across the UK by 34%, increasingly spreading northward. Red Admiral, which was once a #MigratorySpecies, is now living in the UK all year round. We're also seeing other species which have previously suffered severe declines, such as Comma, recovering, with a huge increase of 94% in where it is found."
The Big Butterfly Count gets underway on Friday 12 July and runs until Sunday 12 August. Butterfly Conservation is asking people across the country to take part in this year's count to help scientists understand what is happening to the UK's butterflies, in particular how species are shifting their ranges as a result of climate change.
UK-based peeps. If you haven’t started yet, now’s the time to enrol in this year’s Big Butterfly Count and get counting

Tips for creating #ButterflyGarden cont.
4. Look for flowers native to your area.
5. Gets lots of seeds — cheaper of course, but also allows for masses of flowers.
6. Sow seeds directly on soil then sprinkle a thin layer of soil on top. Keep watered early on. I do not mulch until they’re established, if at all.
7. Plant masses of flowers. Butterflies will notice and will stay in area if food is readily available.
