Il Roland Garros fa i conti con il caldo estremo. Le temperature record registrate in Francia stanno mettendo a dura prova tennisti, raccattapalle e organizzatori del secondo Slam della stagione, in corso a Parigi. Secondo Météo-France, la giornata di oggi sarà ancora più calda rispetto a quella di lunedì, con massime comprese tra i 33 e i 36 gradi nei dipartimenti in allerta arancione per “canicule”. Anche nella capitale si superano abbondantemente i 30 gradi, proprio mentre alla Porte d’Auteuil è atteso l’esordio di Jannik Sinner contro il francese Clement Tabur.
I malori per tennisti e raccattapalle
Le condizioni proibitive hanno già provocato i primi problemi. Il canadese Gabriel Diallo è stato costretto al ritiro durante il match contro James Duckworth dopo aver accusato un forte colpo di calore. Un episodio che ha acceso ulteriormente l’attenzione sulle condizioni climatiche in cui si stanno disputando le partite. Il caldo non sta colpendo soltanto i giocatori. Durante la sfida tra Andrey Rublev e il peruviano Buse sul Campo 7, una raccattapalle si è sentita male a causa delle temperature elevate e del sole battente. La giovane si è fermata e si è seduta a bordo campo, attirando subito l’attenzione dell’arbitro di sedia Eva Asderaki-Moore, che insieme a un’inserviente l’ha accompagnata fuori dal terreno di gioco tra gli applausi del pubblico. La partita è poi ripresa dopo alcuni minuti di sospensione.
Il dibattito sulle regole al Roland Garros
L’emergenza caldo sta riaprendo anche il dibattito sulle regole di tutela per gli atleti. L’Atp ha introdotto nuove norme per il 2026, con cooling break di dieci minuti oltre i 30 gradi e la possibilità di sospendere il gioco sopra i 32. Tuttavia il Roland Garros, come tutti gli Slam, non segue automaticamente il regolamento Atp perché dipende dall’International Tennis Federation. Resta quindi in vigore la Extreme Heat Policy dell’Itf, che lascia al torneo ampia discrezionalità sulle misure da adottare. Gli organizzatori possono decidere di attivare pause per il caldo estremo, sospendere gli incontri o chiudere i tetti dei campi principali Philippe Chatrier e Suzanne Lenglen, trasformandoli in impianti indoor nel giro di 15 minuti. Una soluzione che potrebbe diventare sempre più centrale in un’edizione del Roland Garros già segnata dall’emergenza climatica.
