My quest to become the world’s top expert* on “rescue grass” (#Bromus catharticus catharticus) is on track, but I’m somewhat held back by the lack of people who can identify it from my photos.

It’s such a boring grass that nobody notices it and uploads a photo, much less identifies it.

* by “world’s top expert” I’m referring to the #iNaturalist “Top Observer” leaderboard.

Different grass grows at different speeds. If you cut your lawn on Sunday the rescue grass (#Bromus catharticus catharticus) would now be 5-10cm higher than the rest of your lawn and would likely be forming seed heads.

In comparison the paddock grass — which the National Party would sell their grand mothers for — is only 2-5cm taller than the rest of your lawn and has no seeds formed at the moment. It’s ugly and out of place on your lawn, but no seeds.

Amazingly there are few observations of rescue grass (#Bromus catharticus catharticus) on iNaturalist, probably because it is so boring.
