As far as finding alternative methods goes, I like checking the streaming service options on https://www.justwatch.com/ (the #uspol issue is US-centric ofc, but the website claims to support many other countries).
It's also helpful when one of the shows you're watching suddenly disappears while you're in the middle of a season, to find where it may pop up next.
It includes PBS, Hoopla, and a few hundred others.
