Question to the BookWyrm community:

I'm thinking of opening a BookWyrm account and after visiting joinbookwyrm.com, I'm unsure which instance to join.

My instinct is to avoid the mothership and join a smaller but not too small instance. Should I prioritize an instance with a current version of BookWyrm or one with a larger number of users? Or go with the mothership which has both?

Setting up BookWyrm was not a success and drained all my energy for days trying to get it to work either with docker and dockless on Nginx reverse proxy, documentation is outdated and in slow development.

Out of the fediverse software I tried, Mastodon being quite complex, but no more complicated than BookWyrm.

Guess I can cross that one out.

I've got a #BookWyrm question and I hope someone can help me.
I find it very hard to find people and reviews from people outside my own instance. But I managed it and found one that I wanted to "like". Problem is, of course, that I can't because I have no account on that other instance.
Now, with services like Calckey or Mastodon I simply copy the URL, paste it in that services search box on my insatance, get the post and like it or boost it or comment on it. Done.
With BookWyrm that does not seem to work. I copy the URL, go to my own instance, paste it in the search box and get no result.

Is that just how it works? Or am I missing something?

@feditips @bookwyrm woo, made an account and imported my GoodReads data! Loving the mobile interface so far.

So what #BookWyrmTips and other advice do ya'll have? Is anyone talking about Reading Groups or anything with hashtags or a.gup.py groups?

BookWyrm is a federated open social reading platform, and is the Fediverse's alternative to Amazon's GoodReads.

There's more info about BookWyrm at https://joinbookwyrm.com and there's a list of servers you can join at https://joinbookwyrm.com/instances

You can follow the project's account at @bookwyrm, and BookWyrm accounts can be followed from Mastodon etc, for example @mouse is the lead developer's BookWyrm account.

You can import your book data into BookWyrm from GoodReads, LibraryThing, StoryGraph, OpenLibrary and Calibre.

To import data, first export it from the other service as a CSV file, then log into your BookWyrm account, go to Settings > Import, select the type of data and then browse to the CSV file you had exported from the other service. Select the correct privacy setting, then click "import".

BookWyrm is a decentralized social network for tracking your reading, talking about books, writing reviews, and discovering what to read next.

Wish #Bookwyrm have its own app. I'm limited to use it at home, from my laptop and at the end of the day.
I would like to use it whole day from my own phone. #bookwyrms #BookWyrmTips #Books #Fediverse
