Creepy forests, ancient folklore, slow-burn romance, and a mystery that kept getting bigger the deeper I read. This is how I’d describe Bright Dead Things by #HaileyTurner and honestly, that is enough.

The characters haven't fully stolen my heart yet, but the story definitely has.

My writing journey . . .

Lessons I have learned from AN UNEXPECTED DETOUR Writing Journey

Writing a book is a craft that requires a writer to learn, research, adapt, imagine, observe, give shape to characters, infuse life into stories and much more. My second solo book AN UNEXPECTED DETOUR takes readers through the darkest corners of human nature. As a reader, you will be on a cliffhanger, trying to connect the dots together, with the twists and turns making you expect the unexpected at the very next moment. The U-turns incorporated into the story line keeps you captivated throughout. And the end, you cannot even imagine that it could emanate that way! Before you tag me overconfident or a person bragging too much, let me enumerate what gives me so much confidence. The lessons I have picked up on my journey of writing AN UNEXPECTED DETOUR, equipped me with such high spirits.

  • 1. Show, don’t tell:

This concept helped me in planning the outline, the character arcs, the plots in a smarter way. Being an avid reader, I learned the importance of show, don’t tell and guess what, the idea worked! Readers say on DM that what’s going to happen next, kept them glued to my story.

  • 2. Tapping on diverse senses:

As writers, we tend to tap on the visual senses and our focus goes on to allowing readers to visualize our imaginative perspective. This time, just alike my previous novella, THE QUEST OF VERMILLION, I took my readers with me as my imagination explored the sounds, smell, taste embedded in the immediate vicinity of the setting. I have used illustrations that will vibe along with the story.

  • 3. Pace and Rhythm:

I am sure every writer must have felt an evolved prowess in implanting the correct pace and rhythm into the plot. As an avid reader myself, improper, unbalanced pace breaks my concentration. So, this time I had to think as a reader while using the correct pace and rhythm needed for my thriller creation this time. Adjusting the pace along the emotional cycles of the story as well as along the nail-biting sequence has been the best knowledge that AN UNEXPECTED DETOUR gifted me.

  • 4. Infusing personalization:

This was the most challenging part, friends! I had to put myself into each character’s shoes to project their side of the story. Protagonist and antagonist, I had to do justice to both.

If this intrigues you, you may give it a read. You will find the paperback version here https://amzn.eu/d/etoe1mW.

THE QUEST OF VERMILLION makes a comeback!!

Walt Disney quoted – “First, think.

Second, believe.

Third, dream.

And finally, Dare.”

I really wanted to share this comeback story because I feel perhaps somewhere, someone, might get some motivation. My book “THE QUEST OF VERMILLION“, was going through a steady road, love from readers was pouring in. Some messages on social media read, “Ma’am, this story touched my heart… Is it your own story?”….” When is your next book getting released?” …..”Ma’am, I can relate myself with the protagonist.”….This immense love motivated me to proceed with my next solo book, “AN UNEXPECTED DETOUR”. It got published as well. Belief strengthened. I got a heightened motivation to read more, acquire more ideas and knowledge, research more and write more!!

A couple of months ago, something unexpected happened. I won’t quote names here. It compelled me to take the call and terminate the contract of publication for THE QUEST OF VERMILLION……Due to the unfortunate situation, I could either let THE QUEST OF VERMILLION stay trapped in the same maze or invest my heart and efforts in giving it its deserved space….heart of my readers! But, I have never thought of giving up no matter how bad I felt internally…

What happened next? Well, I had faith in the story. I had faith in those loving words of my readers. I started working on getting a new avenue, a new route to get THE QUEST OF VERMILLION republished. Sending manuscripts, synopsis, connecting with publications, the efforts started. And, 4 publishers approved and were eager to taking the manuscript ahead into a book. I laid my trust on one of them and the work started. The full process I had to go through last time, had to be repeated. And, finally, after a wait of around a month and a half, THE QUEST OF VERMILLION is back with a new look, with beautiful illustrations (created by myself) that amplifies the theme.

THE QUEST OF VERMILLION has succeeded in its quest and those wounds could not affect it. It is available for all my readers. I am sure they are going to love the story.

If you have a dream, if you absolutely love the dream and harbor a passion for it, please don’t let it stay derailed… Please don’t give up…Challenges, setbacks are all a part of our passion just like success and achievements! Every setback can be transformed into a comeback.

What’s your comeback story?
