Just finished Tracy Deonn's #Bloodmarked. It was very good. It engaged with some themes that also appear in Jordan Afueko's #Redemptor, which is likewise the second book in a series about a young Black heroine who inherits tremendous power and must navigate a crushing weight of responsibility. #books #YA #BlackLiterature

The sequel to #Legendborn, #Bloodmarked, is better than the first one, which was already pretty good. This is the kind of reconsidered fantasy we need. And I say this as someone who generally does not care for #YA, especially written in the first person present tense.

Back in Nov. I got to meet THE Tracy Deonn at the launch of her #Bloodmarked tour, at Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill.
This woman quickly became my favorite author of all time after #reading #Legendborn earlier this year.
My inner child leaped for joy and I began to sob the moment I met her.
Even my non-reader hubby was inspired by her speech and let me know, “She’s amazing. I want you to do what she’s doing.”
I’m pretty sure that night changed our lives.
