Critical Mass Boston on Instagram: "Friday! International Polar Bear Day! Join us as usual, meeting at 6:30 in Copley Plaza and riding at 7:00, going under 8 miles. Expect to see some bear statues, snowy Boston, and hopefully some nice and plowed bike lanes and crosswalks. If you are looking to help someone follow the mass, or looking to catch up, check out @criticalmaps"

@bikenite @ascentale @bikeboston.bsky.social was fed up with the state of our bike lanes, two weeks after a snow storm, so we spent the afternoon fixing a few blocks that #Boston has ignored

#BikeBoston

Are you sick of bike lanes that aren't clear of snow after 2 weeks in #Boston? Join @bikeboston.bsky.social in clearing some out this Friday! Let's show the city that they are failing cyclists across the city and it is unacceptable

IF THE CITY WON'T, WE WILL! Help shovel Commonwealth Ave with the BCU

In the weeks following record snowfall in Boston, several protected bike lanes have remained entirely impassable despite 311 requests and direct notifications. When protected lanes are not cleared, people are forced into traffic or prevented from traveling safely at all. This creates immediate and avoidable safety risks, particularly on Commonwealth Ave, where students and residents from Allston, Brighton, and Brookline commute daily, making it one of the highest bike traffic corridors in the city. To reduce the risk of injury, BCU is organizing a small, time-limited effort to clear snow and ice from one priority corridor while continuing to press the City for consistent, systemic maintenance. This action is intended not a substitute for the City’s responsibility to maintain public infrastructure, but as a reminder to them that this is desperately needed. We are inviting partners who are able to: Volunteer time to help shovel and clear the lane, and/or Assist with documenting the conditions and the work (photos or short videos) We will provide clear guidance on safety, messaging, and coordination so the effort remains focused, disciplined, and aligned with shared values around public safety and accountability. We will be meeting at 3pm at Babcock and Commonwealth Ave and start moving eastward. We will conclude our shoveling at 7pm. We appreciate your continued partnership and shared commitment to safer, more reliable streets for everyone who bikes in Boston—year-round. In solidarity, Tiffany Cogell Boston Cyclists Union

Anyway, if you like bikes, even a little bit, I strongly recommend getting involved in the bike community. I've met many great people working with @cambbikesafety.bsky.social and @bikeboston.bsky.social.

A good way to get started and meet a bunch of cool people is through BCU's Bostreal, where you can bike with a bunch of new friends to Montreal, applications are open now.

One of the main things that I see for how to fight the rising fascism we are dealing with is to build community. There is real community to be a part of here, friends and acquaintances that will be happy to see you, even though we'd all prefer a different reason to show up.

Went to the Boston Pretti Memorial Ride today, and as I arrived I immediately was greeted by half a dozen friends (with more arriving closer to the start time). It was a real heart-warming feeling to have that community, and to see really good showing of the Boston cycling community.

Critical Mass Boston on Instagram: "On Saturday, we’ll be riding in solidarity with @angrycatfish and the people of Minnesota. Dress warmly. Meet 2, ride 2:30. Copley Square as usual. From Angry Catfish: Alex was one of us, could’ve been any of us, so as we mourn, all of us can come together in unity to remember Alex for what he was. A kind and caring soul put on this earth to be the light for others. Although his light has been extinguished by this fascist regime, it hasn’t been lost. If anything, those sparks fell and ignited something in us that’s been hiding all along. We are stronger together, and they can’t take us all. We’ve gathered together a community of cyclists to remember Alex Pretti. Please join in, near or far this Saturday, 1/31 1:00 PM Central Time - We’re asking folks to host rides and come together. Bike shops and non-profits, cycling orgs and alt cycling collectives, city and rural. We are many but we stand together as one. - If you’d like to join in and gather folks together, please print the flyer and tag us on social media so we can share where your ride will take place.
