What are the best shops to check out e-bikes for a commuter? Bicycle Belle, anywhere else?

#BikeBoston

@DemonHusky oh are you considering one?
@Kevin job offer that otherwise is really good would be 12-15 miles away depending on route, really don't want to buy a car. An ebike would definitely make it more plausible as a daily commute

@DemonHusky @crschmidt.net @universalhub I used the e-bike lending library in Somerville. Local guy had partnered with a NH shop to help people try bikes before buying. I got a discount when I eventually bought from the source shop too.

@ted @crschmidt.net yeah, I tagged Chris for a reason
@DemonHusky @crschmidt.net oh I didn't know he was the guy!
:) I am the guy, indeed!
@DemonHusky @crschmidt.net @universalhub All the good ones are in California where there is room on the roads for that. Road riding in New England is boardline suicidal.
@Scrimshaw9 @crschmidt.net @universalhub knowing my route, having grown up in LA, and worked in SF, I'd prefer biking here
@DemonHusky @crschmidt.net @universalhub I knew you were from away. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 None of us do that here. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@DemonHusky I'd probably check out the Trek store at Fresh Pond, and a Wheelworks shop. I've only got acoustic bikes myself, no personal e-bike buying experience, but friends and neighbors have gotten theirs at all three of those establishments.
@ozdreaming haha, acoustic bikes! I have heard that before.
@DemonHusky @crschmidt.net @universalhub If you've got a commuter bike that works but just want to add power, I'd also consider doing a CYC Photon conversion. I did this, and it is on par with Bosch and Shimano mid-drives.
@TiconderogaNo1 my local commuter has been Bluebikes which won't work and I like my gravel bike as is, so this is definitely a new bike situation
@DemonHusky yeah, I think Bluebikes would prefer you not install an aftermarket motor
@TiconderogaNo1 more of needing to install a secret expansion station out in the burbs that I don't know if they will let me do
Amped! (aka Casabikes, from the same people who founded CrimsonBikes) and Landry's. Almost everyone, imo, should buy a Velotric Breeze (which you can do at Amped, they're a velotric dealer), but they have one of the broader selections of e-bikes. BB is good at mostly other things, imo.
Amped has worked hard to become a dealer of a huge variety of bike brands, and they now have a giant space. It's a genuinely awesome thing to have in our community that people can try out so many different bikes in one spot, and I find the vibe much better than Wheelworks.
@crschmidt.net ooh, I've never been to the new Amped shop! Wish that they had one night a week they were open past 6pm.
@DemonHusky If you want fancy, it seems that the place in Lexington behind the fire station is now a Mercedes e-bike retailer
@gadgetgav weird, I remember when that was a general e-bike shop (and before that a baseball card shop), but didn't realize that's what it is now
@DemonHusky I thought it was still general e-bikes but seems it’s Merc

@DemonHusky Could check out Boston ebikes in Brookline Village
