Tontechniker im Home-Office: Auf der Suche nach dem einzig wahren Mikrofon am Klavier. Das es nicht gibt, denn in der hier abgebildeten Preisklasse sind sie alle sehr gut, und haben doch jeweils einen unterschiedlichen Charakter. Daher ist es wichtig, sich mit den Ohren ein Bild zu machen und je nach Einsatzzweck dann das passende Mikrofon zu wählen.

🧵 … last round in the #microphone circus.

Testing the #dynamicMic|s #Beyerdynamic #M201 vs. #DieterSchoepfAudioservice #Addy2 on piano. There's also a #Shure #KSM141 involved, which permanently inhabits my piano together with it's twin, both in their omni setting.

The differences are not in quality, rather in style. The M201 sounds too fresh here, it exaggerates the mid highs. The KSM141 sounds the most honest, most like the piano unplugged. Yet, it is also a little boring. The Addy2 sits in the middle, with some presence being highlighted.

The dynamic mics M201 and Addy2 need gain settings close „to eleven“ on my #RME #OctaMic2 #preamp to work properly here. The #KlarkTeknik #CM1 cheap #CloudLifter clone lifts the M201 up to the moderate gain setting of the KSM141 condenser.

For a foreground pop piano solo, I'd probably use the M201 or Addy2, for background piano or pure piano I'd use the KSM141s, which I did here: https://nielsonaut.bandcamp.com/

iMagazine 6/2026 – szybkość…

Czerwiec w świecie Apple oznacza jedno – WWDC. Już za chwilę dowiemy się, jak będą wyglądały systemy operacyjne, z których będziemy korzystać przez kolejne lata. Jakie niespodzianki przygotowano dla użytkowników iPhone’ów, iPadów, Maców, Apple Watchy i Vision? Odpowiedzi poznamy niebawem. Ja tradycyjnie wybieram się do Apple Park, a pełne podsumowanie konferencji znajdziecie w lipcowym wydaniu iMagazine.

Tymczasem mamy dla Was numer, który doskonale wypełni czas oczekiwania. Jak zwykle jest grubo, różnorodnie i bardzo ciekawie. Osobiście szczególnie polecam materiał o Prioracie – regionie znanym przede wszystkim z wybitnych win, ale równie zachwycającym dla miłośników rowerów szosowych. To jedno z tych miejsc, które raz odwiedzone zostają w pamięci na długo.

Mocnym punktem numeru jest także motoryzacja. Zabieramy Was na Porsche Experience 2026, jeździmy legendarnym 911, a także najnowszymi modelami Maserati, Volkswagena i Xpenga. Nie zabrakło też technologicznych nowości od DJI, świeżych zegarków Amazfit i iGPSPORT, nowych kosiarek od MOVA i Ankera/eufy, świetnego audio oraz felietonów, które – mam nadzieję – skłonią Was do refleksji.

Szczególnie zapraszam do przeczytania mojego tekstu o sztucznej inteligencji. To felieton, do którego zbierałem się bardzo długo. Bo prawda jest taka, że nie boję się AI. Boję się tego, co z nią zrobimy.

🧵 … still on the trip to #DynamicMic (for instruments, mostly)… #Beyerdynamic #M201 vs. #DieterSchoepfAudioservice #Addy2 on plucked string instruments. (I only have two of these myself, and I can play only one of them in a decent manner.)

There is no recommendation to be given here. Both mics are excellent. They sound a little different on instruments, with the M201 having lower output but it bit more high end. The Addy2 is actually more honest, not emphasizing high end so much. It is a matter of taste.

The M201 seems to work well with the #KlarkTeknik Mic Booster #CM1 (a cheap #CloudLifter copy / inline mic #preamp), while the Addy2 doesn't like it.

The Addy2 on the other hand is very good mic for vocals / speech, too, while the M201 doesn't even have a pop killer foam delivered with it.

🧵 Continuing my quest to a good #DynamicMic for instruments (mainly), I am having a little detour to inline #microphone #preamp|s. Most people know the #CloudLifter, this little thingie that uses 48V phantom power to make a quiet signal louder without introducing too much noise. But will it alter your sound?

Now #Behringer, in disguise as #KlarkTeknik here, offer something like this for below 30€, while all the competitors go nuts with their prices, the #TritonAudio #Fethead is one of the less expensive ones. If you ask the web for a #diy Fethead, you'll find a couply of simple circuits with less than 10 components…

After some testing, there's only one truth for me & myself: It depends on the mic-preamp combination!

The impedances of preamp and mic might be more relevant than the product. So the KlarkTeknik CM-1 works for the #Beyerdynamic #M201, the FetHead makes it sound worse, but the CM-1 doesn't work so well for the #DieterSchoepfAudioservice #Addy2.

🧵 … and the winner is…

I just quickly hooked these up to some #RME #OctaMic2 and talked into them while listening via headphones.

I'm not sure if I could tell the difference in an A/B blind test between the #Beyerdynamic #m201 and the #DSaudioservice #Addy2.

The Addy2 however has an integrated pop filter, while the M201 doesn't even come with a separate one.

Both mics are made in Germany. The Addy2 is handmade by #DieterSchoepf and more expensive. It provides a little higher output.

Off-axis rejection feels quite similar, and after all this is for me the most prominent reason to go for a #DynamicMic instead of a #CondenserMic: The stronger rejection of higher frequencies off-axis.

I need to check #recording some instruments flosting around here.

After this first quick test I'd say the Addy2 is more flexible because it is explicitely designed for vocals *and* instruments, while the M201 is instrument-only.
