Small passerine birds, such as blue and great tits, avoid breeding in urban areas where there are many non-native trees. Chicks also weigh less the more non-native trees there are in the vicinity of the nest. This is shown in a long-term study from Lund University in Sweden.

Sixty years of data show that cold snaps and heavy rain can stunt the growth of baby birds and reduce their survival chances. A study from the University of Oxford, published March 11, finds that sudden cold spells and heavy rain can slow growth and lower survival chances for young great tits in
