Please Ottawa, with our mayoral race, you know what to do. Pretty please? Anyone but Sutcliffe.

(edit) As pointed out to me, anyone does not include the Nazi developer.

Just noticed I set the poll length to one day. I'll change it to 7 day for better data, hope this doesn't reset the counts. #Ottawa #Mastodon #AutoWa #OttBike #OttawaMeetUp
[edit Whew, it didn't reset the counts]

Hey #Ottawa!

How would you like to have a #Mastodon of Ottawa meet-up on Saturday, May 30th, with a rain day of Sunday the 31st?

Location: I wanted something outdoors, with shade, picnic tables, easy access via LRT, bike paths, and parking for #AutoWa users.

I'm thinking a bring-you-own picnic type event, so I'm suggesting the two parks in the poll. Please vote for both if you are fine with either.

“The fine for not paying the fare is $260” Guess what the fine is for not paying for parking? (Hint: $70 ($50 early)) #autowa @[email protected]

Sean Devine, Councillor for our ward, had a good newsletter mostly about driving/parking etc.

N.B. the changed utm_source lets get Sean on the Fediverse

Unsurprisingly when city staff were asked about banning RTOR they said "no" because Delays and bans could lead to aggressive driving, and drivers ignoring restrictions Create new safety issues like rear-end collisions or conflicts with pedestrians Ensuring compliance ... is a concern #autowa
"How dare you stop at the red light, punt cyclist?!" - Angry pick-up #autowa wankpanzer (QC plate 83G AGW) driver who honked at me for stopping at the red light when he wanted to turn right on red (probably), even though there was a crossing pedestrian and oncoming traffic with the green light.

ANALYSIS: Is Doug Ford waging a war on cars?
“Whether it’s EVs, bikes, or even just public transit, the story is the same: the Ford government has been inept if not hostile when it comes to anything other than getting drivers in cars. Perversely, this isn’t even good for drivers: every incremental car we add to the road makes the experience of driving worse for everyone.

Without meaning to, without understanding that he’s doing it, Doug Ford has spent eight years waging his own war on the car”

I remember hearing, a while ago, that #Ottawa averaged 30 automobile accidents a day in the summer, 50 in the winter. Given what I see of people's driving habits these days, and the likelihood of COVID-induced brain damage, I assumed those numbers were low. Yeppppp…

According to stats in the article below, in the first 45 days of 2026, we averaged 70 collisions per day. In 2025 for the same period it was 66 per day.

For the entire year of 2025, we averaged 56.6 per day, higher than the old *winter* stat.

But please, tell me again why car transportation should be prioritized.
