Going to concerts isn't the only way to help musicians. Keep in mind that some musicians only make music in the studio and don't perform live at all. Buying their music on sites such as Bandcamp is a great way to support your favorite artists. Forget about streaming platforms; they never pay musicians fairly.

If I were to start creating/selling music…

I'd distribute like at least half a dozen formats/bitrates.

And I'd put emphasis on completely populated meta tags.

Yes, author/title/release date/lyrics/…

but also popularimeter/rating/rating mm/rating-wmp and stuff!
