Iivana LemmetyinenWhat comes to Finnish border with Russia, my take is that it is Putin who most needs it closed, and because we have conservative-fascist government, they are easy to play to close the border on behalf of Russia. Fools are easy to play, racist fools even more.
Someone asked what benefit it would be to Russia if the border is closed, and few came to mind:
- Russians can't escape to Finland/West
- Russian resistance cannot use Finland as a base, there's a long history of Russian revolutionaries operating from Finland, it would probably still be useful
- Russians who frequently travel to Finland are less susceptible to state propaganda because they have access to more versatile information sources
- By pointing out that Finland close the border, Russia can use that in its propaganda in Russia and developing countries on how the west is hypocrite and even Finland doesn't care about rights, rules and contracts
- Russia can coerce asylum seekers stranded there to sign contract with Russian army and send them as cannon fodder to Ukraine
On the other hand, when thinking about what disadvantages there are to Putin's regime of closed border, it is hard to find any.
If Russia wants to smuggle in operatives they can still send them any day via some other border and disguised as Russian, Belarusian or Ukrainian asylum seeker.
