Random: I don't often talk about tools, but #AnvilStudio is nice because you can patch in whatever external MIDI device you might have, which means if you're really fancy, you can write music for the Roland MT-32.
Something I'm honestly considering for SLW along with tapping the PC speaker.
Shout-out to #AnvilStudio for letting me easily mix triplets of different note lengths in ways I'm sure would make my old band teacher vomit.

One thing that will help is keeping the number of tracks down. Roland MT-32 sounds great for Superhero League of Hoboken and SLW could maybe benefit from the same limitations of 5 voices and percussion. If it's enough for most rock bands, it should be plenty for me if I'm smart about it.
