@apc In the before-times, phones used to not be wireless AT ALL! They had these things called "cords" and did not have these "screen" things. Sometimes they had a dial the you spun around with your finger, making yourself dizzy looking at it.
Moreover, households tended to have ONE telephone! Each line was expensive, and hey why bother with more than one anyway? Stick it in the front hallway, that's surely enough for everyoe.
And nothing took more advantage of that than your romantic comedies, where "only hearing one side of the conversation" delivers more misunderstandings per capita than anything else. So today we start delighting in some of these ancientest and dumbest of phones! Our #AniMangaFoundIt starts in an even more ancient boarding house...
Ok, this time I have to post this. I need to submit this oddity from Detective Conan: The lunchbox fax/telephone from Episode 10
It only appears in this single episode. But because of the floating timeline, it doesn't make any sense to appear again 
It's not all that hard to find a dumb phone in modern anime, but I wanted to shoot for something old school iconic. The 1st opening from NANA turned out to be exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. In one pic it had everything:
- A hard cd case with cool background art
- A compact disc player loaded with an awesome looking cd
- Cool wired headphones
- Nana Komatsu's fabulously pink dumb phone displaying 01 new messages.
