This week's #AniMangaPictureChallenge ( @apc ) is "Video Games"!

My pick for this week is the game "Starlight Fantasy" from the #anime See You Tomorrow at the Food Court.

In all honesty, it doesn't look like a good game. It's clearly a live-service gacha game designed to hook people in and keep them paying for pulls. Its fanbase appears to be vicious. The gameplay is entirely unclear.

But for Wada, it is life. Primarily because it's the vehicle for her to swoon over her "2D Boy" Oshi, the Duke of Abel.

In anime and manga, alongside top VR games like Shangri-La Frontier, there are still plenty of absolute trash games full of bugs. The protagonist is addicted to these trash games and tries a top-tier game for the first time. A gem of action and comedy.

Video games in #anime span everything from traditional consoles, to phone games and handhelds, all the way to full dive systems where dying in the game means you die in real life!

I'm gonna take a step or two back from that last one, and instead pick the safer round of VR Golf played between Evangeline Burton and Aoi Amawashi.

Even here, Eve's aggressive brute force style vs Aoi's calm and cheerful play leave them both desperate for yet another rematch.

@apc #animangafoundit Videogames are a rich commodity in anime, but one that really stuck in my mind was Hirotaka's addiction to Monster Hunter in Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku. It's not just notable for the sheer amount of hours he pumps into the game over the course of the show, but also it's a rare example of real game footage being used.

#animangafoundit I have one last bookcase to share from last week's challenge- The bookcases in the school library where Kyotaro and Yamada spend a good deal of their early relationship doesn't feature as much in later chapters as it did at the start of "Dangers In My Heart", but it's still an iconic part of the story.
